Southeast Queensland Densified Fuel Pellet Production Facility
ARL has secured a ten year supply agreement with Hyne and Son Pty Ltd (Hyne) to purchase residue and surplus wood from their Tuan wood processing facility and to build a fibre processing facility onsite at their sawmill located near Maryborough, Queensland. Hyne is Australia’s largest privately owned timber company processing more than 1.8 Million m3 of plantation logs annually. ARL’s fibre processing facility is being designed to produce 50,000 metric tonnes of densified fuel pellets annually which will be sold into a combination of domestic and export markets.
Altus has selected Hyne’s Tuan site as the location for the Company’s first waste to energy plant as:
- The ARL site adjoins the Hyne sawmill thus minimising the cost of delivering fibre to the plant.
- The ARL facility will be built to gain maximum efficiency through the utilisation of existing infrastructure at the Hyne sawmill. Wood residue will be supplied from the sawmill’s production facilities directly into the ARL plant’s fibre storage bins.
- All timber supplied to the Hyne mill is produced in the surrounding pine plantations managed by Forestry Plantations Queensland. These plantations are certified with the Australian Forestry Standard and the international environmental standard ISO 14001. This will allow ARL to seek appropriate international environmental accreditation for its products.
- The site is located within the plantation estate and is not near any residential developments and has been zoned specifically for this type of industrial process.
The design and construction of the facility will be undertaken by Folk Fabrication, a US-based company which builds and operates pellet facilities in the western United States. Folk Fabrication has over 20 years experience in the design and management of purpose built wood pellet production facilities and currently operates three plants in the US states of Washington and Idaho. By retaining the services of Folk Fabrication, the Company will have access to Folk Fabrication’s experience and expertise in the construction and commissioning of new facilities.
